Savoia-Marchetti S.M.79-II Sparviero Trumpeter 1/48

Trumpeter 1/48 scale, Savoia Marchetti torpedo bomber. The mold was made in 2002, quite an old kit, though I felt I bought it not so long ago. Search the Internet to find the small things, but not too many hits in the Japanese language. Maybe there are not many people built in Japan.

There are a lot of parts. It looks like a soft feeling of plastic, similar to the KV series tanks I frequently built before.

I focus on the parts which need to erase the joints first at the beginning.

It doesn’t seem easy to install the engine cowl and attach it to the main wing of the engine module. I feel that I need a tight adjustment. The inside of the cowl is painted black. It is a complicated mechanism engine nacelle since landing gear is also built into this module.

I painted the inside of the aircraft green. I think the color inside the aircraft of the Royal Air Force is approximate. This time I used Creos 312, Green FS 34227. The inside of the engine cowl and the engine were painted at the same time.

The decal of the cockpit instrument panel is not included. I painted the enamel black after painting with white water paint, rubbed with enamel thinner lightly only on the meter part, and retouched with a thin brush. In the closed canopy position, I wonder no need to concern as usual. Clear canopy parts are pretty big, but probably most of them will be painted in fuselage color.

The propeller is fixed and does not rotate if built as per the instruction manual. Although I don’t know whether it is smooth as it blows and spins. I want to finish rotating by attaching a long shaft with a 2 mm brass bar.

I assembled a cockpit. Why is this behind such an open space? I wonder if it’s the maintenance space of a torpedo?

I was not sure about the form of the seatbelt, so I diverted from the German seatbelt. It is much better than nothing. The aqueous hobby color red-brown is not easy to use because gloss quickly appears. I’m not so strong a Vallejo lover, but I think I will throw this Creos aqueous red-brown away.

Although I am not good at building work, I like the work of gluing the fuselage and wing. It’s the first step to becoming an airplane-like form and engaging with dynamic work. I poured the adhesive and solidified it in a tight. Align the adhesive side with the upper side. There is a pretty large gap on the lower side, filling in with the plastic seat.

The end of the main wing was poorly shaped because the plastic did not reach completion. Since there were several parts like this, I fixed it with light-curing putty. Completely hardened putty is smoothly filed and feels good. Tamiya’s putty will solidify even by ultraviolet light, but strongly irradiated with LED Mag-Lite or direct sunlight will solidify more strongly; it’s my impression.

There are several masking glass windows. Since it was initially a passenger aircraft, there are windows on the left and right and the bottom, masking the clear parts.

They are painted from the white part and the gray landing gear at the beginning.

Since the number of the Trumpeter color designation differs from Creos, we have to decide on our own. When searching the Internet, it seems Humbrol #94, brown-yellow, is the best recommendation. At the beginning of the example of this blog, I also used Humbrol, but it isn’t easy to open and close the lid. Since it has a solidifying color even if it closes tightly, I gradually returned to Creos user because of those difficulties. If it is a mixed color, #44 tan and #313, Yellow FS333531, are mixed fifty-fifty, which is a nice feeling. Compared with box paintings, etc., it is probably like this. Green was Creos #302, green FS34092, Brown was Creos #41 red-brown, and the aircraft bottom was Creos #308 gray FS36375. Red-brown is a must-have item as I’m a tank modeler; gray was used to paint the MiG-29 last time.

Blowing this camouflage pattern with an airbrush is challenging for me. It is a perfect camouflage pattern for practicing airbrush control.

The aircraft is too big, and airbrush camouflage paint becomes painful and boring. I am painting a different color to change my mood.

I saw “Blade Runner 2049” with my wife the other day. I like Phillip K. Dick’s novels and Ridley Scott’s movies, so this movie was quite interesting. There is no particular story. It looks like a post-apocalypse image video. When thinking about the casting now, it seems there were more androids than humans… Speaking of Phillip K. Dick, I am also watching the drama “The Man in the High Castle,” This is also a view of quite an exciting world. The Amazon seems to have abundant production funds, the set pays money to the detailed points, and the picture is enjoyable. For most of the characters in the Japanese role, Japanese accents are unnatural, but they can not be helped.

Finally, all painting of the camouflage was finished. It seems better to blow beige a little more beautiful. The color was changed from the original cream-yellow while red-brown and green spraying. The contrast between Cream Yellow, Green, and Red Brown is clear. It looks like an Italian military aircraft. However, it is perfectly my image.

I thought it would be completed soon, but a significant gap existed between the middle engine and the fuselage when I installed the engine. I calculated that the gap was hidden with the engine cowl, which is also exposed. I fix it with putty and recover it with the repaint of camouflage. I attached the poly cap to the shaft at the end of the propeller rotation; finally, the engine was installed, but the adjustment was insufficient.

Savoia Marchetti SM79 initially diverted eight-seat passenger aircraft to the bombing mission. This kit has windows on both sides, and there is a remnant of a passenger plane.

It is equipped with three Alfa Romeo engines, quite a characteristic aircraft. Developing a large engine and supplementing it with several engines was impossible. A total of about 1,200 aircraft were produced between 1936 and 1943.

In the assembly manual, only one type of paint example; if you search the net, there are many painting patterns. There are plenty of beautiful camouflage patterns.

The whole was coated with a somewhat lustrous semi-glossy clear coating. The condition of the torpedo and the white belt, which was gross, are unified, and decal protection is also done, so it is just a good feeling.

The marking is S.M.79-II Sparviero, 283 Squadriglia, 130 Gruppo Autonoma, A.S. Mediterranean 1942.

During the Spanish civil war, Savoia Marchetti 79 supported the Franco army as bombers, and they did lightning strike missions in the Second World War. The sea surrounds Italy, and there was a lot of demand for the lightning strike mission. I could install two torpedoes, but it was a considerable weight in the real aircraft, and flight performance dropped considerably when two were loaded.

I do not know well what kind of painting is the right answer for the front part of the engine cowl. I drew silver, red-brown, and burned iron bands.

Since there is no instruction on the small parts in the Trumpeter manual, I interpreted it and painted missing details. Silver of landing gear shaft and so on.

I decorate it by buying a clear case; small planes will likely be decorated in the gap. When it is completed, there is no place to display a large-size model in a narrow room. I’ll keep it tightly closed in a box so as not to attach dust. By the way, the Smithsonian Museum Udvar-Hazy Center I visited previously was also decorated with such a layout.

I stretched the antenna with a thin metal wire. Minimal weathering effect and clean finish. It was good that I could make the propeller move (manually). I want to make the propellers of reciprocating engine airplanes not fixed as much as possible.

I’ve only played games on PlayStation, PC, and steam, but there are many exciting games on Nintendo. Yesterday, I purchased a portable game machine New Nintendo 2DS LL. Recently I’ve been very interested in adventure games, and I wanted to try the software “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney,” which is evaluated as a masterpiece.
