Tristar’s 20mm anti-aircraft gun. It was built in April 2015.
I’ll try to make the anti-aircraft gun of the German Army. I had somehow gotten only this figure set. I received it from a frequent viewer of this website who is not making the kit anymore. It would be a very thankful gift. I’ll introduce the figure set of this anti-aircraft gun later.
Tamiya released a similar kit in 1978, it is a spot sales item, so if we have lucky timing, it’s available. Maybe the Tristar model is more detailed because of the later model. Unfortunately, it’s not produced, and Tristar is now suspended. I suppose some company purchases metal molds and reproduces them.
The plastic is soft, and the color is thin gray, a little transparent plastic. Parts are detailed, but not so many.
I thinned the muzzle with my design knife.
I was impressed that the mount parts are molded sharply, including the holding handles total of one part.

This kit included four magazines, one of which is case opened. Very fine molded. The long case was for the magazines all put in there. Or, considering the length, it’s a spare gun barrel case.
I’m used to making 20mm guns, as I made a half-track version and a Wirbelwind tank. This kit does not have so many parts and is easy to assemble.

I blew surfacer and dark color. I found small scarring after the surfacer and repaired it.
This gun has shot down many enemy aircraft, so I pasted many kill marks.

It is a small palm-sized model, but it’s pretty precise and impressive. The Barrel and the magazines are black and metallic; otherwise, they are finished in German gray.
20mm FLAK38 was widely used for air defense in air, sea, and ground forces. It was towed and placed on a carrier such as this kit; others are mounted on half-tracks, trucks, and tanks.
The angle of elevation was fixed, but the turret itself rotated. There are 20 rounds in one magazine. About three shots firing speed per second didn’t take 10 seconds to consume one magazine. By the way, modern 20mm can fire 50 shots in one second.
I washed and chipped in some colors, finishing with a drybrush.
I think it’s a much more realistic feeling with the attaching of magazine cases and spare barrel cases. It is also interesting such a small kit so easy to make. I sometimes recommend these handy assemble kits; it’s interesting. I attached three figures for this 20mm FLAK on another page.
